Em-Re-Un: Emanate

Em-Re-Un: Emanate

Between the 28th January and 8th February 2020, Em-Re-Un; an arts & curation project directed a by Sophia Shuvalova, with myself as a managing member, technical support, and co-curator for this exhibition (and Rebecca Scott as a founding member); presented a number of local artists’ work at the main gallery of the Anteros Arts Foundation in Norwich, under the title of ‘Emanate’ (which also form the foundation of the theme to which we curated the works). The question we wished to pose to the artists, and ultimately the audience was thus:

In the depths of winter what emanates from within? What concepts emerge from the darkness formed and reformed? The exhibition taking place in the historically coldest time of the year explores emergent concepts, showcasing works by contemporary artists working in a variety of mediums from painting and drawing to sculpture and new media.

Ubinam

The world is gone,
Where then, is this?
Uncertainty instantly upsets me.
Was the security of celestial temple real?
Were there walls or were they worn down?
Is this devastation I see before me,
Or did I forget a pirouette
Turned on my heel, wounded ankle aching
Head spun off, neck breaking whiplash looking back,
A self-flagellating and deliberate discongruity? Read the rest of this entry »
